Consumer Unit Domestic Installation Regulations

Those of us in the trade will all know by now that BS7671 regulation are being amended early next year. One of the main changes is a new requirement to ensure all new installed Consumer Units (fuse boxes) are of fire resistant construction. Currently most new consumer units available for domestic premises have a plastic case which will not satisfy the requirement. By mid 2015 all new installed domestic Consumer Units will need to meet the new fire resistant regulation. As a practical introduction measure during the 1st six months of next year both the original regulation and the new regulation Consumer Units may be installed and certified.

I’ll know more in early December after attending my NICEIC amendment training course.
